We have put together a list of the most frequently asked questions regarding visas for Azerbaijan. In most cases you will find an answer to your question in this list, so please read through the FAQs and contact us if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Q: Can I have an update on the status of my visa application?A: All visa processing times are outlined in our website for each service category, we can not give any additional updates on the status of your application
Q: Can someone else collect my passport on my behalf? A: Yes, it is possible. They must have the original receipt/collection card with them.
Q: Can you please advise if it is necessary for the original Letter of Invitation from my Company in Baku to be handed over to the Embassy?A: There is no need to submit the original Letter of Invitation (LOI). It will suffice if your host in Azerbaijan scans the LOI and emails it to you.
Q: Could you advise me the opening hours of the Azerbaijani Visa Services Centre?A: We are open between 9.00AM and 12.00PM Monday – Friday for both submission and collection. We are closed weekends, UK and Azerbaijani public holydays.
Q: Do I need to make an appointment to apply for the visa?A: No, there is no need to make an appointment. We accept applicants on the “first come first served” basis.
Q: How do I know that my visa is ready for collection?A: AVC strictly follows processing time outlined on the website. You can calculate when the visa is ready by the day the application has been processed adding processing time according to service type you have chosen: normal, urgent, express. Please note that you should add 2 days to processing time as the day the application has been processed and the day it should be posted back are not included in the processing time. You should also add postage time if the application is made via post. For example, if the application has been received by 1pm and processed on Tuesday, the 14th February with urgent service type which is 6 working days, the passport will be posted back on the 23rd February.
Q: I am a Canadian national and would like to apply for the Azerbaijani visa. Can I submit my visa application with you?A: If you are a holder of a resident/work permit or a student visa of UK, Ireland, Iceland or Denmark you are entitled to apply for the Azerbaijani visa with us. Otherwise, you will have to apply either in Canada or in your country of residence.
Q: I am applying for the Azerbaijani visa from Denmark. Can I pay in euros? Additionally can I enclose Danish stamps or cash for you to post my passport back?A: We accept payments only in British Pounds Sterling. You can pay by debit or credit cards. As to sending your passport back, for non-UK residents a £10 postage fee will be added to cover the return delivery costs.
Q: I am planning to go to Pakistan via Baku. I am not intending to enter the city of Baku rather will get another flight from the Heydar Aliyev International Airport to Dubai and then to Karachi. Could you please kindly tell me if I need a visa only to catch a connecting flight?A: Please be advised that if your next flight is within 24 hours and you are not intending to leave the airport you are not required to obtain the Azerbaijani visa.
Q: I have completed my application form, however when I click to print it, a blank application form opens up.A: Please carefully follow the instructions on how to print your completed application form, ensuring that you click Allow on the yellow Adobe warning message. You must print the application from the website, saving the form will only save a blank form. Please note, we do not accept application forms filled in by hand.
Q: I need to travel to Azerbaijan but am unable to apply in person. What other options do I have?A: If you can not apply in person you can either delegate someone to submit the documents on your behalf or you can send them by post.
Q: I need to travel to Azerbaijan but my passport expires in 3 months. Can I still apply for a single entry visa?A: No, your passport must be valid for no less then 3 months after expiry date of your Azerbaijani visa.
Q: I would like to apply for a multy entry visa. Can I do that?A: Multy entry visas are valid for 1 year, they are available for business/humanitarian types of visas only. The application for a multy entry visa requires a telex invitation from the MFA of Azerbaijan.
Q: I would like to apply for a residence permit. Can I do that with you?A: Unfortunately we can not help you with that. Resident permits are issued by the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan (www.migration.gov.az).
Q: I would like to apply for a visa but during the processing time I might need to travel elsewhere. Can I leave with you my Application Form and the Letter of Invitation but keep my passport?A: Unfortunately this is not possible as your passport must be with us throughout the processing time.
Q: I would like to apply for an express visa. Can I do that?A: Express service can only be used if you are applying for Business or Humanitarian visas using Telex invitation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan.
Q: I would like to visit Azerbaijan. Can I obtain the visa upon arrival?A: No. As of the 15th of October 2010 it is no longer possible to obtain entry visas upon arrival at the international airports of Azerbaijan. It is mandatory to apply for entry visas through the Azerbaijani Visa Service Centre. Exceptions apply in the following cases.
Q: My wife and I are German citizens living and working in the UK. I would highly appreciate it if you could let us know if we are eligible to apply for the Azerbaijani visa with you and what additional documents you would need from us, in order to obtain the tourist visa?A: Please be advised that apart from the documents indicated on our website we will require photocopies of your recent utility bill and the bank statement to confirm your UK residency.
Q: Nationals of which countries can apply for the Azerbaijani visa at your Centre?A: Nationals of UK, Ireland, Iceland and Denmark as well as holders of a resident/work permit or a student visa of UK, Ireland, Iceland or Denmark are entitled to apply for the Azerbaijani visa with us. Also eligible are holders of EU member states that are resident in the UK.
Q: Unfortunately I have to travel elsewhere and would like to withdraw my passport. How do I do that?A: If you would like to withdraw your passport it will mean that your visa application will be cancelled. Please note that we will require a clear 72-hour written notice on the passport withdrawal. These requests can be submitted only by the passport holder or the authorised Visa Agent that had submitted the visa application on your behalf. Moreover it is noteworthy that the provision of the exact date of documents' submission is a prerequisite for acceptance of withdrawal requests. If you fail to provide the exact date, it will lead to delays in the passport’s retrieval. Please also note that you will get no refund for cancelled or withdrawn application.
Q: When the visa is issued from? How long it is valid for?A: The visa is issued from the date of issue. The single/double entry visas are valid for 90 days from the date of issue. Duration of stay for single visas- maximum of 30 days. Duration of stay for double entry visas are decided by the Consulate based on the Letter of Invitation that supports the application form. For multiple entry visas the visas are valid for 12 months and duration of stay is not limited. However, please note, that if the visitor is staying in the country for more than 30 days, he/she must register with local authorities.
